5 Cake Designs We are Falling in Love With!

We love working with clients to design their dream wedding cake. Whether the cake has three tiers or one, it is the centerpiece of the dessert table and a great way to showcase the wedding design in a new way. The design of each cake is unique to the wedding itself, and taking inspiration from the flowers, dress, venue, and other elements of the wedding is one of our favorite things to do when designing a cake. Inspiration can come from anywhere, and we love creating visual centerpieces that taste amazing too.

While we love each design we create, we wanted to share a few designs that have especially captured our hearts. These gorgeous cakes are unique to the clients, venues, and seasons in which they were created, and we are so excited to share them with you.

 #1 -  A graceful, floral touch

We absolutely adore this cake that we created for a styled shoot at Montage in Big Sky, MT. The shoot was coordinated by Bijou Weddings by Design and was photographed by Honeyseed Photo & Film, and it featured lots of classic design elements with a fun and unique twist.

We wanted to do our own take on the timeless "white flowers on a white cake" design, so we decided to layer delicate sugar flowers on the cake rather than using fresh flowers. The contrast of the clean lines of the cake with the whimsical flowers fit perfectly with the setting and other design elements, and gave this cake a classic look with a fun spin!

#2 - Vintage perfection

We are seeing a huge trend towards retro-inspired cakes with elaborate piped detailing and fun pops of color, and we are here for it! This fun cake was designed for a really unique wedding at Echo Arts Gallery in Downtown Bozeman that was coordinated by Jasmine Lilly Creative and photographed by Katch Silva. The wedding design was full of really special elements that reflected the character of the bride and groom, and designing a cake that fit this design was especially fun for us!

The subtle pink and white checkerboard pattern on the sides of the cake add a fun detail and pop of color, and the vintage piping and maraschino cherries fit well with other retro-inspired elements in the wedding design. This cake made such a statement as the centerpiece of the dessert table and was a joy to create.

#3 - Classic with a pop of color

This stunning cake was created for a wedding with lots of colorful elements, and it perfectly balances traditional design with creativity. This wedding was coordinated by Beautifully Born Events and had a beautiful setting at Copper Rose Ranch, photographed by Perry Vaile Photography.

The simple lines of the cake are complemented perfectly with delicate, scalloped windows, each showcasing a pressed edible flower. This is a unique twist on adding color to the cake using flowers, as these flowers are incorporated seamlessly into the design and do not need to be removed before the cake is served!

#4 - It's all in the details

Adding texture to a cake is a great way to increase visual interest and add detail. This beautiful cake was designed for a wedding at Copper Rose Ranch that featured lots of classic design elements, coordinated by Bijou Weddings by Design and photographed by Jeremiah and Rachel Photography. Most of the wedding design centered around a timeless palette of black and white, so keeping the cake simple was a must. However, simple definitely does not mean boring!

White buttercream flowers were textured into the sides of each cake tier to add texture and depth to the design, and small candy pearls were a special added detail. The stunning floral install designed by Amanda Jewel Floral Design was the perfect way to showcase the cake on the dessert table, while not pulling focus from the rest of the gorgeous wedding design.

This stunning wedding was published in Montana Bride Magazine in 2023.

#5 - Where playful meets timeless

This cake shows that breaking the "round cake only" mold can be a good thing! This cake was designed for a styled shoot with Montana Bride Magazine at the AC Hotel in Downtown Bozeman. This fun day was coordinated by Happenings and Montana Bride and was photographed by Kylie Martin. It was so much fun to be a part of this gorgeous shoot, and we loved getting creative, and a little playful, designing this cake.

The top and bottom tiers were kept simple, with a traditional round shape and light texturing for visual interest. Keeping these tiers simple allows the uniquely square middle tier to really shine, showcasing an intricate buttercream flower. The meadow of flowers around the cake, designed by Rowan and Larch Florals, perfectly highlighted the cake and made it fit seamlessly with the rest of the shoot design.

It was such a joy to design and create each one of these cakes, and we cannot wait to make more in the future! We believe that wedding cakes should be edible works of art that incorporate and highlight other design elements to create an unforgettable day. Designing a unique cake that specifically matches the vision for a wedding is so important, and we love the challenge and creativity found there!
